J&K Elections: political parties not to hold 'Victory Processions'
12/21/2014 11:38:07 PM
Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Dec 21 : In the wake of devastating September floods in Jammu and Kashmir and recent massacre of more than a hundred children in Peshawar, political parties in the state have decided not to hold any victory processions.
Sources said that Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Rohit Kansal had shot a letter to all the Deputy Commissioners on Saturday asking them to hold meeting with representatives of different political parties regarding victory celebrations after the poll results are declared on December 23. "During the meetings they (representatives) were suggested that there should be no victory parades as there were apprehensions of clashes," they said.
A senior officer of district Srinagar said that political parties gave positive response to their suggestion of not holding victory parades. "We had some apprehensions that there might be clashes and they gave us a positive response that they won't celebrate. Besides, also the flood devastation and Peshawar massacre were the other reasons not to hold any undue celebrations," he said.
Meanwhile, a leader of National Conference said that they were waiting for results and the party believes that it will be favourable for them. "The celebrations are the part of the elections and our workers are free to celebrate at individual levels," he said.
A leader of People's Democratic Party said they will wait till the results are out. "We will wait near venues where counting will take place.
We are sure of our victory and once the results are out, we will celebrate the victory at Mufti Sahab's residence. But there won't be any undue celebrations or bursting of firecrackers," he said.
