53 pc Govt schools in J&K without toilet facilities | At 5th slot in list of states with highest percentage | | Akshay Azad

Jammu, Dec 21: A recent survey has revealed that nearly 53 pc government schools in Jammu and Kashmir are without toilet facilities. Moreover, the state is at 5th slot in the list of states and Union Territories across the country with highest number of schools without toilet facilities for students. This is not exactly the kind of milestone that gives the Omar-headed outgoing government much to cheer about. According to a recent report furnished by Department of School Education and Literacy it has come to fore that out of 28765 government schools in Jammu and Kashmir, nearly 15309 are without toilet facilities, which is nearly 53 per cent. Out of total 28785 schools, a total of 8685 have no toilet facility for boys and nearly 6624 have no toilet facility for girls. The report also revealed that J&K is at No 5 in the list of states with highest percentage of schools without toilet facility. Meghalaya has 95 percent schools without toilet facilty, Arunachal Pradesh (74 percent), Assam (65 percent) and Andhra Pradesh has 61 percent schools without toilet facilities. Moreover, Chandigarh, Daman and Diu, Delhi, Lakshadeep are among the list of states and Union Territories, where there is not even a single school without toilet facility. The Jammu and Kashmir government has failed to make any major change in the scenario in the last one year, as in the report of last year the number of schools without toilet facility was nearly 61 percent. In the report of last year, out of total 23,234 schools in Jammu and Kashmir 14,116 schools were without toilet facility. As per the previous report, the number of schools without toilet facility for girls was 6294 while schools for boys without toilet facility were 7822. |
