Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 21: After Class-IV recruitment scam, another controversy has hit the School Education Department in Jammu and Kashmir as the State Vigilance Organization is mulling to register an FIR against the former Director School Education Jammu for promoting some teachers on the basis of fake degrees.
Sources told Early Times the SVO has almost established that a number of teachers, who were recently promoted as Masters, had produced fake degrees of the Bachelor of Education (B Ed) for the elevation in service.
These fake B Ed degrees were procured either from the non-existent or un-recognized universities. Even as the officials in School Education Department were well aware of the non-genuineness of these B Ed degrees, promotions were accorded allegedly on the instructions of higher authorities, preliminary investigations reveal.
Sources said that former Director School Education, Jammu, Tushar Kanti Sharma has emerged as main accused in the promotion scam while involvement of
some more officials as well as Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and his PRO Kewal Sharma cannot be ruled out. The investigation was initiated on a complaint in this regard to the SVO Jammu by teachers association, which alleged that a number of beneficiaries did not have genuine B Ed degrees and their illegal promotion marred the prospects of genuine teachers, who were next to them in the seniority list.
Mess in the School Education Department can be gauged from the fact that besides according illegal promotion on the basis of fake degrees, some of the blue eyed promoted teachers were even secretly posted as Masters while genuine promotes are still awaiting their adjustment.
These illegal adjustment orders were also allegedly issued by then Director T K Sharma, sources said, adding that preliminary investigation into the complaint has almost been completed by the Vigilance Organization and FIR in this promotion scam is likely to be registered soon.
