Jammu, Dec 22: Indian Red Cross Society of Jammu and Kashmir division General Secretary Roma Wani today inaugurated first Jan Aushadhi Generic Drug Store here Government Medical College Hospital, Bakshi Nagar. According to press release, Wani said that the Jan Aushadhi was a Government of India initiative under which quality generic medicines are made available at affordable prices. In Jammu and Kashmir State, Red Cross Society has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the scheme with the support of the State government under a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding between the Bureau of Pharma Public Sector undertakings of India (BPPI), the Health Department and Red Cross Society. Roma Wani credited the success of Jan Aushadhi in the State to team effort and thanked the administration of GMC Hospital, especially the Principal, Dr. Ghanshyam Dev Gupta and the Medical Superintendent, Dr. R. Rattanpal for their co-operation in making the facility available to the people who throng the Hospital from all parts of the Jammu Division. While giving details of the status of the scheme, Wani said that Jan Aushadhi was one of the flagship Projects of the Red Cross Society and three stores at Doda, Udhampur and Reasi districts were already functioning in the Jammu Region. Besides, stores in Leh, Kargil, Anantnag and Pulwama in the Kashmir division are also functioning well. The Store in office premises of IRCS at Exchange Road, however, was completely destroyed by the September floods and efforts are on to restart it. Stores at S.M.G.S. hospital and district hospital, Ramban are ready for operation and would be inaugurated soon. |
