PDD's helpline ill informed about curtailment schedule, winds up business before dusk | | | Majid Nabi
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 22: Besides erratic power supply, the negligent and 'non conversant' approach of customer care executives in Power Development Department (PDD) 24 hour helpline segment, has irked consumers in Kashmir as no employee is capable enough to provide apt information to the public vis-à-vis PDD's fresh curtailment schedule. Furthermore the much hyped PDD helpline aimed to redress the grievances of general public is barren after 5 in the evening with no 'representative' available to listen to the complaints of the people. According to PDD's new schedule for this winter, there would be no change in current time table with metered areas to face three to four hours power cut whole as there would be six to seven hours cut in non metered areas on daily basis. "We are extremely sorry as we have no information about the department's new curtailment schedule, you could better judge it as an when the power goes off," a helpline representative was quoted by a consumer from Nishat area of the city who had called up on PDD's toll free number 18001807666 to get information about the new curtailment schedule. "This is amazing as the people assigned to keep people updated are not informed. Ours is a metered area but still then we are facing at least fifteen hour interruption on daily basis contrary to the new schedule of six to seven hours," Jasim Rasool a consumer from Nishat said. Jasim said the representatives in the supposed helpline section are incompetent to satisfy people with reasonable rejoinder. He said the helpline is of no use as the people sitting there are uninformed besides the services are blocked much earlier in the evening. Pertinently, most of the city areas for the past several days are reeling under complete darkness forcing people to train guns against the authorities concerned. "We want the government to answer as to why people are bearing the brunt of its incompetence of settling down the issue. Why should our children face problems while studying despite the fact that there is no delay in paying the monthly electricity bills to the department form our side," Abdul Hamid Zargar a retired government teacher told 'Early Times' He said that the authorities should immediately wind up the helpline section as the representatives there are uneducated and arrogant. "Since the authorities announced new schedule, the power situation in the Valley has worsened to a great extent in both metered and non-metered areas," Nazir Ahmad Yatoo of Eidgah complained, adding if the disturbed power supply has affected anyone in particular, it is the student community. "My son is preparing for examination this time. But unfortunately he has to study under candle light due to unscheduled break in power supply," he said, |
