Amid terror attack threats, Jammu, Kathua turn into garrison
Police, paramilitary men maintain vigil to ensure R-Day passes off peacefully

Jammu, Jan 24: Amid intelligence inputs that terror groups Lashkar-e-Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen may strike in Jammu or Kathua district in wake of forthcoming Republic Day and US President Barrack Obama's India visit, authorities have turned twin districts into garrison by deploying hundreds of police and paramilitary men to thwart any terror strikes on the occasion.
Officials told Early Times around 12 companies of police and additional paramilitary forces men have been deployed in Jammu and Kathua districts and they are maintaining round the clock vigil to ensure that Republic-Day passes off peacefully.
A high alert was sounded in twin districts following intelligence intercepts that LeT and HM, backed by Pakistan's spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) are making desperate attempts to appease their bosses by carrying out a major terror strike.
A specific intelligence input with the Central agencies says a detachment of 5-6 terrorists has been deployed by Badabhai Masroor and is likely to cross over from Shakargarh and Zafarwal Darman area for terror attacks around Republic Day in Jammu or Kathua region. The detachment is in touch with an ISI's Colonel Masood Khan.
Meanwhile, SSP Kathua Pawan Parihar when contacted said that security has been beefed up keeping in view the intelligence inputs received by the central agencies.
He said that 4 companies of police have been deployed for nakas en -route to border, besides additional battalions have been deputed with Hiranagar ,Rajbagh and other police stations near the borders to plug any infiltration attempt.
The SSP said on zero line there is heavy deployment of paramilitary BSF men and they are backed by army soldiers to guard the border.
The SSP Jammu Uttam Chand said that 7 companies of police, and additional 700 police men have been deployed on naka points for checking and guarding purpose, adding paramilitary CRPF men have also been deployed in and around the MA stadium where national flag would be unfurled.
