National voters' day celebrated across State

JAMMU, Jan 25: To commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India and to enhance the participation of voters,especially the youth, the 'Fifth National Voters' Day' (NVD) with theme "Easy Registration, Easy Correction'' was celebrated here today. The function was organized by Chief Electoral Office J&K.
Principal Secretary, Planning & Development B. R. Sharma who lit the traditional Lamp was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Shantmanu, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Ajit Kumar Sahu and officers from state administration and state election department besides senior citizens and large number of young boys and girls were present on the occasion.
Extending his good wishes to the people of the state and Election Department team, Sharma noted that such initiatives have contributed positively to the creation of awareness about the responsibilities cast on all stakeholders for effective and meaningful participation in the electoral process.
"Setting up of the Election Commission of India on this day was indeed a landmark chapter in the history of free India, a step which facilitated peaceful, orderly and democratic transfer of power through delivery of free, fair and credible elections to the people", the Principal Secretary said.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Ajit Kumar Sahu informed that under the directions of the ECI many new innovations have been introduced like SVEEP, expenditure management & control system, SMS Service, etc. He congratulated the election machinery for having smoothly conducting recent elections in the State.
Earlier on the occasion, Consultant Election Department, Harcharan Singh in his welcome address informed that 5 lakh new voters have been enrolled to the voters list and now the state has over 72 lakh registered voters. He said that photo coverage has increased to 94 per cent and EPIC percentage to 91 per cent. On the occasion State Awards 2015 for Best Electoral Practices were also presented.
Ajeet Kumar Sahu, District Election Officer, Jammu was presented the award for innovation in the field of Voters Education and Electoral participation, Dr. Farooq Ahmed Lone, District Election Officer, Baramulla was awarded for voters Education and Electoral participation, Mohammad Aijaz, Electoral Registration Officer Khan-Sahib was awarded for Electoral Roll Management and SVEEP activities, Ashwani Kumar Khajuria, Electoral Registration Officer Gool Arnas was awarded for electoral Roll Management and Booth Level Officers from Bandipora, Jammu, Samba and Reasi were also awarded. Two Special awards were also given away to NIC Team J&K and 14th Corps of the Indian Army Leh.
Later on prizes among the winners of the photo competition were also distributed in which Information department bagged the second prize which was collected by Deputy Director (AV), Wasim Raja.
Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) were distributed among boys and girls who had attained the age of 18 years, thus becoming eligible for their right to vote and participate in the democratic process.
Students of Government women's College Jammu presented a very insightful skit and dance highlighting the importance of electoral process and the right to choose leaders and how valuable casting of vote becomes towards ensuring that best leaders are put in position of power and responsibility.
District Administration of Rajouri today celebrated 5th National voters' day with the theme " Easy Registration, Easy Correction" under the guidance of District Election Officer, Jitendra Kumar Singh.
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Salim Malik, Assistant Commissioner, S.S sambyal, and others seniors officers of civil administration were present on the occasion.
Later on, students carry out rally with the slogans 'Greater Participation for Stronger Democracy' which started from DC office complex.The National Voters' day is also utilized to spread awareness among voters regarding effective participation in the electoral process in different Tehsils of district Rajouri.
National Voters Day was observed in Mendhar tehsil of district Rajouri wherein the electors drawn from different blocks of tehsil participated during the function.
According to press release, Sub Divisional Magistrate Mendhar Ramesh Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramesh Kumar impressed upon the voters for greater participation in the elections for strengthening democracy in the state and also exhorted other stake holder to spread message for maximum participation in the Election Process so as to ensure that the Democratic System in the State and Country become stronger.
Fifth National Voters day celebrated in Doda and Kishtwar districts, with an aim to spread awareness and importance of voting rights, under National Campaign.
National voter's day was celebrated with a view to demonstrate the rich democratic ethos of the nation and to spread wide awareness regarding democratic structure of our country among the youth and to encourage their larger participation in the electoral process, beside to enroll the new voters in voter lists.
On this occasion, District administration in collaboration with 8 Rashtriya Riffle and District Information Centre Kishtwar organized series of events to promote the importance of "Vote".
The program was started with a Racing Competition for young children on the theme 'Run For Fun' from Helipad Kishtwar to Government Boys HSS which was followed by an Awareness Rally of Sarpanches and

The District Election officer (DC) Reasi Shabir Ahmad Bhatt was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion the DEO highlighted the importance of the day and said that the Election Commission's objective behind the celebration of National Voters' Day is to increase enrolment of voters, especially of the newly eligible ones, by using this occasion to make universal adult suffrage a complete reality, and thereby enhance the quality of Indian democracy.
On this occasion, forms for registration among the eligible members not yet registered in the electoral roles were distributed. The officials also explained the process of filling the form and informed regarding the process of submitting it to the relevant office. The students showed greater interest in getting registered for voting.
The National Voters Day was celebrated across the Kathua district with great enthusiasm.
At district headquarter a programme was organized at conference hall of DC office complex wherein Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua Prasanna Ramaswamy G presided over the function. Tehsildar BLO's of Kathua Assembly Constituency were also present on the ocassion.
At the outset ADC greeted people on the Voters Day. He hailed Booth Level Officers for the successful completion of recent Assembly Elections in which record polling was registered in all five assembly segments of Kathua district. On the occasion an interactive session was held under which experiences and problems were shared by Booth Level Officers.
On the ocassion EPIC's were distributed among the newly enrolled voters besides a pledge taking ceremony was also held. Earlier two rallies of school students were flagged off from Shaheedi Chowk which culminated at DC Office Complex. The rally of students holding placards with slogans on Voters right passed through main chowks of Kathua.
