Rajouri, Jan 25 : A 7 year-old girl was mauled to death by a leopard in a remote village in Kotranka tehsil of Rajouri district in the late hours on Friday, police and wild life officials said today.
Rubia, daughter of Mohd Suleman and resident of Kharian village was attacked, dragged inside a forest and killed by the leopard which ventured into her village at about 7 pm on Friday, Bashir Ahmed, SHO said. He said the girl was attacked by the predator when she was coming back home along with her two siblings after giving fodder to cattle inside cattle shed. He added that on hearing the cries of the victims and her siblings, family members rushed outside and after knowing the fate of Rubia a alarm was raised in the areas and people gathered and police was also informed. Immediately after the incident, people launched search for Rubia and at about 11 pm the badly mutilated body of the girl was recovered from the forest. After legal formalities, police handed over the body to the family members today for her last rites.
The man-animal conflict in Rajouri district is on the rise over the past few months which resulted in the deaths of several people and livestock. |
