Drug Policy lost in oblivion, Govt fails to implement NHAM | Poor deprived of benefits | | Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 28: With hyped Drug Policy lost in thin air, J&K Government failed to implement pro poor National Health Assurance Mission (NHAM) in the State, depriving poor people of the State of the benefits of this policy. Department sources informed Early Times that Union Health Ministry had many times urged state health department to implement the drug policy, up-grade the existing infrastructure and provide better Medicare in the State but pervious government turned a deaf ear. "The government of India had proposed NHAM, a scheme that assured free drug, diagnostics and health insurance for all and better health care facilities to poor and needy people of the State, but owing to lackadaisical approach of officials of concerned department, government failed to implement the scheme and deprived the poor and needy patients, who couldn't afford costly treatment," they claimed. They further said that Union Health Ministry team comprising 10-members from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) that visited Jammu to facilitate the preparation of State Programme Implementation Plan (SPIP) of the mission for the financial year 2015-16 pulled up the officials of state health department for delay in implementation of drug policy in the State. "They also directed to up-grade existing infrastructure regarding dispensation of free and quality drugs to patients in every hospital as per the drug policy," sources informed adding that they also directed the State Health Society to prepare SPIP in one month's time for next financial year. Director Health Service, Jammu Dr Baljeet Singh Pathania did not respond to repeated calls. |
