JAMMU, Jan 28: Terming National Conference and Congress as strange bedfellows, Peoples Democratic party has called both as opportunist parties joining in unholy alliances to clinch power.
"It's not me saying but Omar Abdullah himself had said that Ghulam Nabi Azad can go to any extent licking shoes of anybody to get LS nomination," said PDP chief spokesperson Nayeem while talking to media in Jammu today.
He said that Azad also never minced a word to call Omar a failure post elections abnd had said that he (Omar) had brought miseries to state under its six years rule.
On likelihood of BJP-PDP combine forming the government in state, name said that mutual contest for RS between both can raise the level of comfort in that direction also.
"Neither we can win alone, nor can they (BJP). So it was necessary to form an arrangement for RS contest, he said.
"Process for government formation between the both is on and as so soon as Common minimum programme is formed, the government would come into being," said Akhtar.
The nomination of Congress leader of opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad to contest one seat of Rajya Sabha in alliance with National Conference has brought Bhartiya Janta Party and People's Democratic Party in close liaison to share two nominations each for the four RS seats that goes to polls Febeuary 7.
Sharing the views Ghulam Nabi Azad said that Congress and National Conference both are ages old partners since pre-Independence and have been contesting the issues of Jammu and Kashmir on same principles of giving good governance.
He mentioned Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah for pursuing the cause of unity among the people and said NC and Congress too have been following the same path to ensure good governance based on mutual principals.
"There can be clash of personalities, but as far as basic principles are concerned, both tread the same lines ," said Azad after filling his nomination in Jammu civil secretariat today.
He added that he has the number to contest and expressed hope for winning the seat.
On US president Barak Obama's call on taking all religions along, Azad said that it was a masterstroke by the US president who proved the notion wrong that US president can be dictated by anyone.
"I appreciate Prime Minister Narinder Modi for making Obama visit a great occasion. India is a great country that can only thrive where Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christian all are taken along," he said.
BJP MP and state president Jugal Kishore Sharma while talking to media said that since both BJP and PDP both have taken the support of one another in Rajya Sabha contest, this can be an indicative of process in place for government between the both.
"We want to make a stable government that could run for full six years term and provide good governance to the state," said Jugal Kishore Sharma.
National Conference provincial president Devender Rana said that after consultation between UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and National Conference president Omar Abdullah, a decision was reached to support field three candidates for the Rajya Sabha jointly.
