SRINAGAR, Jan 30: Lecturers who have been engaged on contractual basis in four major colleges of the summer capital face discrimination at the hands of the authorities as they have not been entitled to pay enhancement which is in effect from the last two years.
As per reports, Higher Education department issued an order favouring the enhancement in the salaries of the contractual lecturers by Rs. 2,000. But what is surprising that the lecturers of the colleges of the state are being paid the revised pay except for those working in the four major colleges of the Srinagar city.
The contractual lecturers who are from the major colleges of Srinagar and who are not being paid the revised pay say that they raised the issue with the authorities many times but to no avail. They say that the authorities are playing the dilly dallying tactics in meeting their legitimate demand.
“Why only we people have been denied the revised pay when the order for enhancement in the pay by Rs. 2,000 is for all the college lecturers appointed on the contractual basis. It is just a very small matter and we fail to understand what is preventing the authorities to settle it,” said a group of aggrieved college lecturers.
The college lecturers said that this treatment at the hands of the concerned authorities has created a sense of alienation in them and as according to them they are not enjoying the self-respect. They said that they have been meted out a step motherly treatment despite the fact that all their counterparts are drawing the revised salary.
Director Finance Colleges, Krishan Singh said that the matter is pending as it an administrative issue. He exuded confidence that the matter will be solved in a few days time. “I can confirm to you that the file regarding the case was sent by the administration and we dispatched it too”.
When asked that what the authorities are going to do with the money which these ignored lecturers have not received in terms of the revised pay, the Director Finance Colleges said, “I maintain that the authorities will cover the ignored lecturers under the same order as applicable to other colleges of the state and also the issue of their arrears will be settled by Monday or Tuesday”.
