PG Law & Sciences, GDC Poonch in QFs | Inter-college cricket tourney of JU | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 30: The combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments of University of Jammu (JU) and Government Degree College (GDC) Poonch today qualified for the quarterfinals of the ongoing inter-college cricket tournament on the JU campus ground, here. While PG Law and Sciences awarded the match after SVS Degree College Sunderbani left the game halfway in protest, the GDC Poonch registered an outright win against GDC Doda. In the match between PG Law and Sciences and Sunderbani college, former won the toss decided to bat first. They set a target of 115 runs for nine wickets in given 20 overs. In reply, visiting Sunderbani College could not give it a big start and lost two wickets in successive overs to struggle at 12 for two. Soon after Sunderbani lost their second wicket, the batsmen left the field amidst allegations of misbehave by PG Law and Sciences. The Sunderbani team did not return to the field despite lots of persuasion and efforts put in by the organizers. The incharge of the competition and JU cricket coach, Raj Kumar Bakshi was later joined by Director Sports and Physical Education, JU, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, who too tried his level best to convince the visiting team but the young cricketers from district Rajouri were not in a mood to play the remaining part of the game. With the result, the match was awarded in favour of PG Law and Sciences. Meanwhile, in another match of the day, GDC Poonch made it a one-sided contest against GDC Doda beating latter by 10 wickets. Batting first, GDC Doda scored 85 runs for five wickets in given 18 overs. Kuljinder played fine innings of 30 runs while Fazal and Shahid contributed 10 runs each. From GDC Poonch, Mohd Arif took two wickets, followed by Owais Ahmed and Anwar Ahmed, who shared apiece each. In reply, GDC Poonch attained the goal in 14.3 overs without any loss. While Kartik completed his half century making 59 runs off 50 balls, Owais Ahmed contributed 23. Today's matches officiated by the technical penal comprising Sadiq Hussain, Vijay Dogra and Saleem-ur-Rehman as umpires while Manu Khajuria was scorer. |
