Kupwara, Jan 31: Residents of Kupwara district are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) authorities for unscheduled and frequent power cuts and locals have threatened to take to streets if the power supply is not improved soon. Residents said the Department doesn't adhere to the schedule due to which the students preparing for examination are facing hardships. "When PDD installed meters in our area we were told that we would get power supply round the clock, but their promises turned out to be a hoax," they alleged. They further said the situation in un-metered and remote villages including Kupwara, Langate, Handwara, Kralpora, Trehgam, Hayhama and valley Lolab is no different. Many others remote villages including Badkoot, Rajpora, kalmoona, Hafrada, Rangward, Marseri, Shalal and Sudal, are facing acute power shortage. "In Drugmulla, vodhpora, Muhgalpora, power supplied from Arampora grid station is disrupted after every half an hour. "PDD resorts to continuous power cuts," locals said. Residents of Kupwara, Tikker, Hirri, Drugmulla, Trehgam and Kralpora alleged that power plays hide and seek and during night hours the supply goes off for hours together. Unscheduled power cuts have become order of the day and students are the worst sufferers. |
