jammu, Jan 31: The inauguration of Sub District Hospital (SDH) Khour by former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand in a hurry has failed to make any difference, as it has failed to serve any purpose. He (Tara Chand) had to bite the dust despite trying to douse the flames at the last moment.
Sources told Early Times the SDH was set in violation of Indian Public Health Standards norms as only four doctors are manning it since the day it was inaugurated.
They said the former deputy chief minister had put the SDH in place in hurry to increase his vote bank in the last assembly election.
Sources said that Tara Chand had inaugurated 50 bedded sub district hospital one day before the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came was imposed in JK.
At present there are only four doctors including two medical officers, Physician Specialists and a NRHM doctors manning the health institution since inauguration.
Castigating state government Ramesh Chander a resident of Dori Panchayat of Khour block said SDH Khour has caters to 36 Panchyats and the population of more than 70 thousands souls, spread across the length and breadth of border areas. At one hand government claimed that primary health institution should have round the clock emergency services but SDH Khour has dearth of doctors and specialists, so what a person will do with the building.
They said when SDH Khour was inaugurated Tara Chand claimed that the establishment of the health institution would improve healthcare services in the border areas. However, he forgot but that manpower is must to take care of patients.
Another resident said that Tara Chand approached them just before election time. "Being poor people, we don't have money to visit district hospital or Government Medical College Jammu", he said. "I initially visited SDH Khour, but only a few doctors, were present there and they referred me to SDH Akhnoor due to lack of manpower."
When contacted Chief Medical Officer, Jammu Dr Robinder Khajuria said that he had already taken the matter regarding sanctioning of doctor posts to SDH Khour with higher authorities.
