Groupism at peak in Cong ahead of rahul's crowning
Hari Shankarvyas 2/1/2015 11:25:55 PM
Leaders who are loyal to the Gandhi family want to see Rahul on the throne, but the decision is being deferred due to apprehensions of some people. Probably, Sonia wants a consensus on this decision. Many leaders are apprehensive that if somebody raises questions after the
announcement, the situation would be quite embarrassing

Bizarre news is coming in regarding internal politics of the Congress. Reli
able sources say groupism and factionalism are at the peak in the party. It is
being said that in the last meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), it had to be decided that Rahul Gandhi would become president of the Congress, but at the last moment it was deferred. Leaders who are loyal to the Gandhi family want to see Rahul on the throne, but the decision is being deferred due to apprehensions of some people. Probably, Sonia wants a consensus on this decision. Many leaders are apprehensive that if somebody raises questions after the announcement, the situation would be quite embarrassing.
Congress sources say Priyanka's supporters have not lost hope and are still pursuing their endeavour. That is why recently there was news that many members from Team Rahul were working at the official residence of Priyanka in Lodhi Estate. It was also being said that Kanishka Singh, a close aide of Rahul, was also working at Priyanka's house.
However, Priyanka's office never issued a denial. There is also news that Priyanka's husband Robert Vadra is trying to set up a big media house and has bought a TV channel which was about to shut down, giving indications of Priyanka's political ambitions. The result of this factionalism is that many leaders of the Congress are fighting with each other. Sonia has time till April to sort this out.
Green signal to the nuclear deal is being considered as the greatest achievement of US President Barack Obama's India visit. Probably, the chemistry between Obama and Narendra Modi has made this possible. However, Congress leaders are trying to take credit for this achievement.
During her meeting with Obama, Sonia told him that the nuclear deal was the gift of the UPA Government, and for six years, the BJP-led NDA Government had stalled it. Abhishek Manu Singhvi said his party supports this deal because it was worked upon during the UPA regime, while Digvijaya Singh said the BJP was the master of U-turns. He said the UPA worked towards the deal by putting the Government at stake and the BJP had opposed it for six years.
Some of the leaders dug out old tweets of Narendra Modi while other re-tweeted them; these were from the time Modi and other leaders had opposed the deal. Many leaders of Congress feel that this deal can have a great effect at the time of elections in Delhi.
Many leaders in the Congress feel the party benefitted from the nuclear deal during the elections held in November 2008, and fear that this time the BJP may reap the benefits.
Though election campaigning in Delhi slowed down due to Obama visit, all parties are gearing for the last week of campaigning. Sources say AAP leaders will resort to personal attacks on Kiran Bedi, which they haven't done till date. Probably AAP leaders will highlight three issues related to her. One of them is about travelling in the economy class while claiming the fare of business class, and claiming reimbursement from two or more organisations for the same destination. The second issue is related to the admission of her daughter at Delhi's Lady Hardinge Medical College on the Northeast quota when she was posted as DIG at Mizoram. The third is related to lathicharge on lawyers.
At first, Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders welcomed Bedi. But when surveys started showing her ahead of Kejriwal, they started targetting her personal integrity and honesty.
Modi is giving a new turn to the foreign policy of India. Apart from developing India's political, economic, diplomatic and strategic relations with the world, he is developing personal chemistry with global leaders.
No Indian Prime Minister has ever given so much emphasis on developing personal relations with leaders of superpower countries. Modi has developed a personal chemistry with the US President.
Obama had accepted Modi's invitation to come to Delhi last November and when he came, Modi welcomed him keeping aside the protocol. He himself brewed tea for Obama. In the joint press conference, Modi addressed him with his first name, and met him at least eight times in three days.
Before this, President of Asia's superpower China had come to India and the world had seen Modi's personal bond with him. Chinese President Xi Jinping had started India's tour from Gujarat. He and his wife sat on swings with Modi at the Sabarmati river front. Due to this personal chemistry, the issue of incursion of Chinese army into Indian territory was sorted out.
Modi also shares a good rapport with the Prime Minister of another superpower - Japan. When Modi went to Japan, Shinzo Abe came to receive him keeping aside all protocol barriers.
Not only this, when Modi reached Australia for the G-20 summit, Abe was already there and had organised a separate dinner with Modi. From David Cameron to Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel, Modi has charmed everyone.
PM Modi has shown his decisive leadership during Obama's India visit. Though his decisiveness was evident when he brought in an Ordinance to change the Land Acquisition Bill and to increase the FDI limit in the insurance sector, even more determination was required for a civil nuclear deal, which he showed on Sunday.
UPA 1 had done that deal and Manmohan Singh had put his Government at stake for the deal. But after July 2008, Singh could not take it forward. But in a moment, Modi decided to go ahead with it. Now, the Congress and Left are raising questions on this.
Modi has given indications that there might be many such decisions on which the Opposition may not agree. If this is addressed then new paths of economic and strategic relations will open up. So, Modi had kept eyes on the talks going on in London and made sure that the deal would be sealed during Obama's visit. It doesn't matter what the Opposition parties are saying; Modi's strong leadership is being talked about in the entire world.
The percentage of women leaders is less in Indian politics. Generally, women from political families are active. But in the past few days, women leaders have shifted their stand so quickly that those who coined the 'ayaram, gayaram' proverb are amazed. Former MP, MLA and minister of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Anuradha Chaudhary has recently joined the BJP. After the RLD, she had joined SP and then probably moved to AAP and now to the BJP.
Similarly, Jaya Prada, who has been MP for two times from Uttar Pradesh, is now trying to join the BJP. She had started her career with TDP. After that she moved to SP, but she fought the last Lok Sabha Elections on an RLD ticket.
South Indian actresses Khushboo is on the same path. Her political career started just 3-4 years ago. She started with DMK and recently joined the Congress. In Delhi, Shazia Ilmi started her political career with AAP and has now joined the BJP. Kiran Bedi, who used to reject the idea of joining politics, has joined the BJP.
