CHANDIGARH, Feb 1: Indian Space Scientists are working on exciting new breakthroughs and innovative methodologies in the field of communication. This was stated here today by Dr Jitendra Singh,Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS in PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, during a visit to the Chandigarh based Semi Conductor Laboratory (SCL) of the Department of Space.
Elaborating further, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, "Ultra Wide Band" (UWB) systems are gaining world-wide popularity in modern communication era, particularly for short and medium range communications. In the times to come, he added, such systems will have to be developed for further applications and explained that the main passive components of the Ultra Wide Band systems are "antenna" and "filter".
In addition, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, the inherent accompanying challenges of rapid scientific advancement in modern communication technology will be to cater to a wide range of frequencies and at the same time also develop mechanism for rejection of undesired frequencies. Obviously, this aspect would require further research in order to meet requirements in the fields of Space, Defence and other applications, he added.
Lauding the work being done in the Chandigarh laboratory under the Department of Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, this is perhaps the first establishment of its kind in the country which is researching and developing semi-conductor with the objective of implementing the new concept of UWB on Silicon Substrate. Director, Semi Conductor Laboratory, Chandigarh, Surender Singh explained to Dr. Jitendra Singh various new innovations being developed to increase the speed of performance in lesser and lesser time and space. Dr. Jitendra Singh went through different compartments in the laboratory and showed keen interest in the work going on. He himself also participated in some of the experimental work that was in progress. Senior scientists of the SCL also made a brief presentation before the Minister.
