Rural Technology Action Group commences functioning

Jammu, Feb 26 : The Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG) Chapter established at Jammu University has initiated work on various problems which were identified in the meeting held in December 2014 under the chairmanship Governor of State, N N Vohra.
Pertinent to recall that this meeting was specially attended by Dr. R. Chidambaram, eminent Scientist and Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, who had, in his earlier discussions with the Governor, informed the latter about the existence of RuTAG.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of various State and Private Universities and other interested institutions. A number of proposals were identified, including the improvement of the Palki used for carrying pilgrims to the Mata Vaishno Devi ji, Shri Amarnathji Shrines; collection and disposal of mule dung along the tracks of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine; recharge of springs in the hilly areas of the State and development of a hybrid Bukhari for use in the colder regions of J&K. The project for the improvement of Palki design will be jointly taken up by the IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and National Institute for Industrial Engineering Mumbai. The project for improved disposal and biogas production from mule dung on the Yatra track of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi ji Shrine will be jointly taken up by the Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR), National Research Centre on Equines (NCRE)-Bikaner, National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. The project for recharge of dried springs in Rajouri would be taken up by the Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization (HESCO), Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC), University of Jammu and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah Univerity, Rajouri. The project for development of a Hybrid Bukhari will be jointly taken up by the IIT Delhi, DRDO and University of Kashmir.
Governor has directed Dr. Manoj Dhar, Registrar, University of Jammu, and Coordinator of RuTAG Jammu Chapter to effectively coordinate with all the aforesaid institutions, which are involved in the time bound follow up action on all fronts.
