Jammu, Feb 26: An awareness programme on swine flu was organized by the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) at its campuses viz the Faculty of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, R. S. Pura and Faculty of Agriculture Main Campus Chatha for sensitizing students about swine flu. Swine flu is a respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses that infect the respiratory tract and results in dry cough, decreased appetite, nasal secretions, and listless behavior; the virus can be transmitted to humans. In the programme, the medical officer of the university Dr. Anil Gupta spoke about the swine flu and the preventive measures that need to be adopted by the students. Dr. Pradeep K. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu addressed the students and laid emphasis on adopting preventive measures suggested by the experts. The students were also given a broader overview of the causes and symptoms of the swine flu, and precautions and treatment. Dr. R. M. Bhagat, Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Dr. S. B. Bakshi Deputy Director Students Welfare SKUAST-Jammu briefed the students about the dos and don'ts for avoiding spread of swine flu. |
