Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 26: The Common Minimum Programme (CMP) has been re-drafted on the pressure of the Sangh Praviar. The Sangh was not happy with the language of the CMP especially over Art 370. The PDP was insisting on the language that will send a message that it will not be disturbed.
"The CMP was re-drafted after Sangh was consulted on its final draft. Art 370 has been core ideological issue of the Sangh and it can't be allowed to be diluted or taken off from the BJP's stand. The wording has been phrased in a manner that party's stand will be loud and clear that sustained efforts will be made to abrogate Art 370 and these will be taken to logical conclusion," said a senior leader, wishing not to be quoted.
The sources said the re-drafting was done after the Sangh was annoyed over the media reports and the perception being made by the PDP that it is it and not the BJP which is having final say in the drafting of the document.
"The perception and the drafted CMP was potentially damaging for Sangh and also for the BJP. PDP has after all won only three more seats than us. In Jammu we have managed to secure seats in the region where we made an entry for the first time. And we couldn't have deceived the mandate given to us by the people of this region who have all along been having a feeling being discriminated by the separatists forces," said the leader.
The PDP on sensing this re-drafted went into huddle and it's for this reason there were reports of glitches in the final agreement. Mufti Sayeed in particular was not happy with it and consulted the implications with the senior party leaders.
"Mufti wanted to keep the original draft but was categorically told the changes have to be accepted. It was PDP who was going to be looser if he had not accepted the new terms as it is difficult for the regional party to be out of power for longer time than us as we have never till now considered to be in governance," said the leader.
