Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 28: Jammu and Kashmir Geo-spatial Data Centre (GDC), Survey of India, Jammu has celebrated National Science Day on Saturday 28 at its premises Survey of India Complex, Golf Course Road, Nagrota, Jammu. On this occasion, more than two hundred children accompanied by teachers from various schools attended this exhibition. The exhibition was organized under the leadership and guidance of Colonel Amardeep Singh, Director, J&K GDC, Survey of India. During the exhibition, Harbir Singh, KS Rana, Neetesh Vishwakarma and Manjeet Singh, Officer Surveyors of the Centre explained the different kinds of maps and digital maps prepared by Survey of India and modern instruments and technology being used for mapping. They also explained the role of Survey of India in the nation's development and quoted that map reflects the development of a nation. Ranjeet Singh, Dalbir Singh, Deepak Balotra, Shubh Karan, Rameshwar, Phuntsong Angchuk, Lukesh Kumar, Zafar Iqbal, Shashi Jamwal, Bhanu Pratap and Daman Kumar, Surveyors displayed and explained the use of modern scientific instruments i.e. Global Positioning System (GPS), Digital Level, Total Station, Mobile Mapping System, GPS and use of various types of software used for the digitisation to the students. Meanwhile, Krishan Gopal, Ram Pal Sharma, Sanjeev Kumar, Harcharan Singh, Desh Kumar Sharma and Rajpal Dubey Draughtsmen with Rattan Lal, Survey Assistant displayed various types of maps prepared in Survey of India. The chronology of ancient to modern maps was also explained to the students via flow chart. The students from Modern Naveen Public High School, Rising Star Public School, Govt. Higher Secondary School, Camp Higher Secondary School, St. Xavier Public School, Shanti Niketan, Sacred Heart Public School etc. of Nagrota, Jammu visited and showed their curiosity about the process of map making. |
