Border residents seek Roshni Act, talks with Pak for peace

Kathua, Mar 1: Hundreds of border residents of Hiranagar and Samba areas today extended their greetings to newly formed BJP- PDP coalition government in the state and sought implementation of Roshni Act besides direct talks with Pakistan for peace and tranquility along the International Border (IB). Subash Singh of Bobiya, a village situated close to the Zero Line, hoped for redressal of their long pending demands including implementation of Roshni Act and peace along IB. He said people hailing from border areas had several problems which needed immediate redressal and hoped that new government would definitely think about the frequent sufferings of people due to cross-border shelling. Ishwar Singh, a peasant, said their agricultural land was occupied by defence forces and they had raised issues to previous governments but nothing was done to compensate them. He said a hope of relief package and compensation for occupied land has been raised after formation of the new government that would do justice to poor peasants. He said ministers hailing from Jammu region under the leadership of Dr Nirmal Singh, Dy CM J&K, would do justice with those who have been affected with cross-border shelling. Rashpal Singh laid stress on talks with Pakistan for peace and tranquility along IB. He said people "leave their houses, live stocks and agricultural land when the Pakistan Rangers violate ceasefire along the IB". He hoped that the new government would take necessary steps for the peace and development along the IB.Jagdev Singh, an old man, said there were several issues of the border people which had been raised several times since Independence but nothing has been done in this regards. He sought special recruitment for the border people, safety to the affected people and other basic amenities for them. He said the new government should take favourable steps to mitigate their sufferings.
