4 yrs on, SHCs yet to be completed | Ailing health sector in rural areas | | Bijay Charak Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 3: Despite lapse of five years the construction work of two Sub Health Centers (SHCs) buildings in Bhaderwah has not been completed. Sources informed Early Times that the Public Work Department (PWD) had started works on SHCs with staff quarter building at Dranga and Drodhu in the year of 2011- 12, with an estimated cost of Rs. 70 lakhs but surprisingly four years on, the work is still incomplete. "It will definitely escalate cost of the project", sources said, adding that the people suffer for want of adequate medicare in remote areas. Castigating the state government, the locals of these areas said that they don't have money to visit adjoining health institutions. "To understand the plight of the locals, one has to spend time with us, to know how we struggle in odd hours, in case of emergency. We request Mufti Mohammed Sayed led state government to expedite the on-going development works in rural areas, especially related to health sector", they added. They further said that the SHCs are catering more than dozens of far- flung villages, who are spread across length and breadth of mighty mountains. When contacted PWD, Xen Bhaderwah, Kundal Kumar said that almost 90 percent work has been completed, "but due to paucity of funds, remaining work could not be completed on time. We have forwarded repeated reminder to senior officials, seeking release of funds, but the funds are still awaited", he added.
