3/5/2015 12:15:35 AM
ET Report
Srinagar, Mar 4: Former separatist turned mainstream politician and chairman of Peoples Conference Sajad Gani Lone who was given the portfolio of Minister of Science & Technology and Animal Husbandry in BJP quota did not join the office on Wednesday to express resentment against him not getting the portfolio of his choice.
Sources told Early Times Sajad is reportedly was not satisfied with the ministry given to him and feels totally betrayed. The former separatist, who took a bold initiative and joined the national mainstream to clear the way for other separatists to follow him, feels dejected at the treatment meted out to him. Sajad Lone instead of joining the office flew back to Srinagar.
Another PC legislator Bashir Ahmed Dar who won the recent assembly polls from Kupwara assembly segment confirmed that Sajad( who after meeting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year had called him as his "elder brother") is unhappy and is feeling let down and his supporters have advised him not to take charge of a "low profile ministry."
"Yes, our supporters are unhappy and annoyed and they have been continuously advising Sajad Lone not to assume the charge," Dar told a Srinagar based news agency.
Sajad didn't join office in Jammu and returned to Srinagar as his aunt who lives at Hariya Kupwara had passed away some days before.
Dar said that he himself has been receiving scores of phone calls from the supporters who show anger and resentment and, "request me to persuade Lone not to join cabinet."
Bashir Ahmed Dar said that they are not going to make a submission neither before the BJP nor PDP and in no way would try to persuade them to allocate some important portfolio to Sajad Lone.
He said People's Conference would call a meeting and would chalk out strategy for future after taking all the supporters into confidence. "Whatever, we have to do in future, we will do it with the consent of our supporters," he said.
Meanwhile, another PDP legislator Abdul Rehman Veeri also did not assume his charge as Minister for Horticulture, Haj and Auqaaf. He however said that due to his personal engagements, he was unable to assume the charge and his absence from Secretariat should not be taken otherwise.
