Early Times Report

Kishtwar, Mar 20: The people of Kishtwar today blocked the road and held a protest at mini bus stand against the failure of the government in restoring electricity to the town for the last six days. They were demanding immediate restoration of electricity and raised slogans against NHPC and administration for their failure to restore electricity and for repeated snapping of power line. They also demanded the handover of 390 MW Dulhasti project to the state and provide free electricity to Kishtwar.
They threatened to give Kishtwar band call if power wasn't been restored by tomorrow. Former Vice-President of MC Kishtwar Nusrat Parveen Baghwan showed her anguish over the delay in restoration of electricity to Kishtwar, adding that delay showed step- motherly treatment of the government towards the people of Kishtwar. She said that nobody was thinking about the future of those students who were appearing in Board & university examinations and added that students of 10th & 12th class were facing annual examinations during these days and electricity failure had put them under psychological pressure and depression. She said that administration and leaders of Kishtwar were sleeping and had failed to pressurise the authorities for early restoration of electricity. She said that the present situation of people of Kishtwar district was worst than those who lived in 18th century. She said that due to road blockades during rains, people of Kishtwar were facing problems on account of early delivery of ration, kerosene oil, LPG, vegetables and other essentialities. No newspaper had hit the stalls here for the last 21 days. She said that government is duty bound to look into the matter as early as possible, otherwise people of Kishtwar will come out on streets for which only government will be responsible.
