SRINAGAR, Mar 26: At a time when the state government has announced to act against the inefficient officials, a premier association of businessmen in Kashmir has alleged that the head of a particular department is indulging in malpractices in his own backyard.
Kashmir Economic Alliance-Khan (KEA-K) headed by Mohammad Yasin Khan said that Director Geology and Mining has been showing inimical attitude towards all the miners/lease holders. Khan said that the officer was once sidelined for his arrogant and corrupt nature, but managed a comeback.
"The return has made Director Geology and Mining more aggressive and mean. He minces no words in saying that he is indispensable in his position and has the authority to do whatever pleases him, no matter what harm he brings to the mining sector," said Chairman KEA-K.
Khan said that the Director Geology and Mining issues notices and warnings at the drop of a hat and never encourages the community, so much dependent on him. He said the lease holders tried many a times to meet him, but his behavior has been hostile and arrogant
"KEA requests the Minister in-charge to look at the functioning of this officer and take measures to stop the harassment and loss caused to mining sector by this officer. KEA would like to brief the authorities on the high handedness of the Director Geology and Mining, so that a complete account of misdeeds of the said officer is given," said KEA-K Chairman.
Khan said that Alliance does not believe in making wild allegations and likes to be co-operative and helpful in administration's efforts to revitalize all the commercial activities. He said that Director Geology and Mining has stopped all the excavation work as he wants all the miners to pay outstanding to the government in one go.
"The KEA time and again requested that some kind of amnesty is granted with respect to the repayment and that stage wise payments are allowed. This request was in line with the stand taken by the government to encourage business activities in the state. The said Director refuses to allow any work on mining. The result is that since the last four months no excavation work has been undertaken. This will result in more delays in payments to the government," said KEA-K Chairman.
Khan said that efforts to convince Director Geology and Mining that mining should be allowed and accept payments in installments have failed. He said that it seems Director Geology and Mining wants to pressurize the miners to gratification.
"Some officers at various levels in the government are sabotaging Kashmir Industry and Commerce in their efforts towards self reliance and economic stability after disastrous floods. The trade and commerce has been trying hard to get back to some kind of normalcy but the stumbling blocks put up are difficult to surmount," said KEA-K Chairman.
