| Coordination Committee to serve as 'political cabinet' for BJP, PDP govt | | To discuss 'contentious' matters before going public | |

Jammu, Mar 26: In what can be seen as both the alliance partners PDP and BJP having taken a step forward to ensure ties are on a firm pedestal in future, the government today announced a high level Coordination committee with veteran leaders from the two parties on board . The Committee is being seen as a political cabinet of the alliance government which will discuss and take final call on all political matters and also stand as a forum to tone down controversies on contentious issues which may erupt between the two ideologically divided parties in coming times. Even as first meeting of the Coordination Committee has been fixed tomorrow, it may not see any serious business nor has any specific agenda been set up for discussion as yet, sources said. Sources further said since majority of the members of the Committee are MPs, three each from BJP and PDP, the first meeting may not witness full attendance as some members are still in Delhi. The first meeting will be more of a formal exercise to warm up for meaningful and result oriented meetings that will be held in future, at least once a month, as already decided by the government, said a leader from PDP.
While setting up of Coordination Committee has come as a step that was under consideration for ensuring smooth functioning of the coalition government , in routine it will discuss all coordination matters that are aimed at greasing the wheels of alliance on functioning of the government , mostly the issues which may create or cause wedge between the allies, their political constituencies between diverse and different for all political purposes. The Committee will take up any and every issue for discussion before the parties go public or make formal announcements over it, said a senior leader of BJP, also a member of the Coordination panel. Though this panel is more for ensuring better coordination, the fact remains the step has been necessitated in the wake of the fact that majority of issues which the government may take up in future , no matter for betterment of masses, these are bound to cause resentment for either of the partner in their respective constituencies. Therefore, in order to prevent any such situation of resentment getting snowballed into controversy, the members of Coordination Committee wold discuss them beforehand , weigh pros and cons much before going public, said the PDP leader. The Coordination Committee has come as respite and much needed step for BJP as it has been facing public resentment and wrath on a host of issues initially when government was formed early last month.
