Bhaderwah, Mar 27 : Scientists of Regional Horticulture Research Sub-station Bhaderwah of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu organized one day training programme on 'rain water harvesting and moisture conservation techniques in apple and almond' under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi sponsored Network Project on Outreach of Technologies for Temperate Fruit Crops.
Dr. Mahital Jamwal, Principal Investigator of the Network Project apprised the participants that abiotic stresses and lack of proper irrigation are among the main reasons of low productivity of apple and almond in rainfed regions. He told the participants about the importance of rain water harvesting and moisture conservation techniques in rainfed areas for optimum growth and yield of fruit crops and water requirement of plants at different growth stages could be met by harvesting water from snow and rains in these regions. Different mulching techniques were demonstrated to the farmers for in-situ moisture conservation in fruit orchards of apples.
Dr. Neeraj Kotwal, Dr. V.K. Singh and Dr. Rohit Sharma discussed among the farmers different cultural practices required for cultivation of apple and almond in rainfed areas. Rajesh Kumar, Santosh Kumar, Altaf Hussain, Shabir Ahmad and Abdul Rashid assisted the training programme that was conducted under the guidance of Dr. J.P. Sharma, Director of Research, SKUAST-Jammu and Prof. (Dr.) Nazeer Ahmad, Director of Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture, Srinagar. |
