Rs 74.72 lakh scam: CBI court denies bail to Chairman Cooperative Society, Others

Jammu, Mar 27: Special Judge Anticorruption (CBI Cases) J&K Jammu Suresh Sharma today rejected the bail application of F Z A Bhatti, Chairman/MD/Secretary, M/s National Foundation and M/s United Handicraft Self Help Group Federation Industrial Cooperative Ltd and a self claimed political and social activist and handed him over to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a case of mis-appropriation of Government funds to the tune of more than Rs 74 Lakh. After hearing Special PP KS Pathania for the CBI whereas Adv Ajay Vaid for the accused, Special Judge Anticorruption (CBI Cases) J&K Jammu Suresh Sharma observed that accused is allegedly, involved in a huge financial scam having committed a fraud in the amount of Rs 74, 72,000/- which was meant for the Training and imparting skills to the Artisans in the Rural areas of the state.
"All dimensions of this scam require in depth investigation and at this stage it will be just and proper to hand over the accused to CBI, ACB, Jammu for in custodial investigation so that the investigation of the FIR in question is taken to its logical conclusion, court said and with these observations Court rejected the bail application and handed over the accused to CBI, ACB Jammu for custodial interrogation. Court also directed that accused has to be produced in the court on next date of hearing on April 1. According to the CBI that a case under section 5(2) r/w 5(1) (d) and Section 120-B r/w section 420/467/468 & 471 was filed against V K Mahajan, V K Savita and Som Nath all then Assistant Directors Handicrafts M&SEC and Zaheer Abass Bhatti, Chairman/MD/Secretary M/S National Foundation and M/S United Handicraft Self Help Group Federation Industrial Cooperative Ltd for allegedly misappropriating Rs 74.72 Lakh. The enquiry further revealed that M/S National Foundation Jammu was operational in the various villages of District Rajouri and it conducted baseline survey for formation of 25 Self Help Groups of 375 artisans in the area and after completion of preliminary enquiry it revealed that VK Mahajan , VK Savita, Som Nath all then Assistant Director Handicrafts M&SEC and Zaheer Abass Bhatti Chairman/MD/Secretary M/S National Foundation and M/S United Handicraft Self Help Group Federation Industrial Cooperative Ltd misappropriated Rs 74.72 Lakh by abusing their official positions.
