Early Times Report Kathua, Mar 28: Irked by the ignorant attitude of the local administration, hundreds of villagers hailing from Keerian village today staged a massive protest demonstration against district administration at village Keerian, 40 km from Kathua city, only village that falls in Punjab but is a part of Jammu & Kashmir. The protesters were raising 12 years longs pending demand of proper lanes and drainage system in the village that frequently cause several communicative and water borne diseases. The villagers raised the issue before former MLA Charanjeet Singh, BDOs and Tehsildhar but nothing has been done to mitigate their long pending demands. Karan Singh, sarpanch, Keerian panchayat, said people usually skid off and fall in the several pits on the streets and link roads which caused major injuries in previous years. He said some live-stocks also skidded off and fell into a 12 feet deep pit where they succumbed to injury. Mulkh Raj, panch of the village, sought immediate remedial measures of their sufferings as school going children get major injuries due to lack of proper lanes and drainages in the village. He said waste water of houses and over flowing of canals gets collected in streets that cause several diseases. The protesters seek immediate redress of their grievances and appealed district administration to include their streets in plan for development and construction of lanes and drainage. Dilawar Singh, Babu Ram, Sarishta Devi, Parkasho Devi, Harbans Lal and many others were present on the occasion. |
