MENDHAR, Mar 29 : The alternate bridge across the Poonch river was today washed away and over a dozen houses suffered damages due to incessant rains that played havoc in the region today. The heavy rains triggered flood in Poonch river as a result of which the alternate bridge, that was laid across it after the last September floods, was washed away, according to official sources.Due to the swelling of the river, eight families were trapped at Khanetar and six at Chandak. ACR, Poonch, Shafiq Ahmad said though the administration contacted these people, they did not agree for their shifting to safer places. DC, Poonch, M H Malik said three to four houses were damaged badly in the rains. Sources, however, said over a dozen houses suffered damages in the rains. Civil and police teams had been rushed to the affected areas to carry out rescue operations, Malik informed.Rains also triggered landslides at several places on the Rajouri-Poonch road, leading to its closure, sources said, adding that some roads were also washed away. Meanwhile, several villages of Mendhar, Surankote, Poonch and Mandi were without electricity for the past few days. |
