Jammu, Mar 31: One day training programme on Crop Production Technology under Changing Climate Scenario was organized by NICRA -AICRPDA, Advanced Centre for Rainfed Agriculture, Rakh Dhiansar, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J). The programme was conducted under the able guidance of Director Research SKUAST-J, Dr. J.P. Sharma and Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma (Sr. Scientist I/c Station). The main aim of this training was to train the farmer about the adoption of different scientific agro-technologies under changing climate scenario, thereby boosting their production efficiency. About 25 farmers from NICRA village Khaner, district Samba participated and interacted with SKUAST-J scientists regarding the different scientific agro-techniques to cope up with the situation arising due to changing climatic conditions. Scientists from different disciplines of SKUAST-J delivered their expert lectures. Dr. Jai Kumar, Scientist (Agronomy) at the outset of the programme extended warm welcome to the participating farmers and scientists from the different disciplines of the university and stressed the farmers to follow the diversified farming to enhance their livelihood. He further stressed that the farmers especially from the kandi belt having undulating topography should go for the adoption of agro-techniques like compartmental bunding, sowing across the slope, dust mulch, weeding and use of different types of mulches to conserve the moisture. He also discussed different situations arised due to late onset or early cessation of rains. Dr Anil Kumar Sharma, Sr. Scientist and Incharge, Advanced Centre for Rainfed Agriculture, Rakh Dhiansar briefed about the different activities going on station and assured them to provide any kind of help regarding agricultural activities to boost their yields. He further stressed to follow the package and practices recommended for the zone by SKUAST-J. Dr. PK Ray, Sr. Scientist (Soils) focused on the importance of vermicomposting in improving soil health. Dr. Vikas Abrol , Sr. Scientist and Dr. Barinder Singh, Jr. scientist Soils, discussed about the soil sampling techniques and balanced fertilization. Dr. Sonika Jamwal, Jr. Scientist (Pathology) delivered expert lecture on integrated disease management under the changing climate scenario. Dr. Reena, Sr. Scientist (Entomologist) discussed various IPM practices for the quality production and thanked the participating farmers and scientists for their active participation. |
