Top priority to open model schools in Jammu, Kashmir: Mufti Sayeed 3/31/2015 11:53:38 PM Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 31: Top priority would be accorded to opening model schools at pre-nursery and primary levels in all districts of Jammu and Kashmir to improve the quality of education, the state government today said. Intervening during the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed also asked state Education Minister Naeem Akhtar to take up the issue of opening more Kendriya and Navodaya Vidyalayas with the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). "There is an urgent requirement to establish more KVs in J&K. We will have to approach the HRD Ministry and I will also meet the Minister for HRD in Delhi in this regard," he said "...To improve the quality of education, top priority would be accorded to the opening of model schools at pre-nursery and primary levels in all the districts of the state," Mufti added. Akhtar said the state government was working towards improving the quality of education in government schools so that people would prefer to admit their wards in such institutions instead of private ones. "Steps would be initiated to make government educational institutions more vibrant so that people prefer to admit their wards in these institutions instead of private ones," Akhtar said in the Legislative Assembly. He said that engagement of contractual lecturers for current academic session has not been stopped, adding that the process of engagement of contractual lecturers would be initiated before the start of next academic session. Akhtar said focused attention will be given to fill vacant teaching posts in schools, adding that recruitment process of teaching staff through Service Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) would also be expedited. Replying to a question by member Shakti Raj Parihar, he said 18 masters, 149 teachers and 398 Rehbar-e-Taleem (regular teachers) have been transferred in Doda district during the year 2014-15. "Out of 440 vacancies of teachers in district Doda, 408 have been referred to SSRB and the interviews for these posts have already been conducted," he said. Replying to another question by MLA Neelam Langeh, the minister said expansion of education is top priority of the government. "Focused attention would be given to upgrade educational infrastructure in remote and hilly areas. Optimal teacher-student ratio would also be maintained in schools."
