BARAMULLA, Mar 31: Flood-like situation has arisen due to poor drainage system, which is being considered as grave issue here in Baramulla district of north Kashmir. Reports suggests that for the past a few days incessant rains has badly hit the normal life across the valley, especially Baramulla, Srinagar, Budgam and Pulwama districts where drain water has entered many houses and shops. Patches of roads in many places of the district were also washed away causing huge inconvenience to the general public. Bashir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Kanispora, told Early Times that drain water has suddenly entered their houses. Water logging has caused huge loss to them. "The department of Municipality and R&B are well aware of the fact that Kanispora is low lying area and water enters our houses and shops during rainy season every year but nothing has been done in this regard," local rued. Meanwhile, according to a reports from Sopore town several pavements, water pipes and retention walls at agriculture fields were damaged in the heavy downpour and many people have been evacuated to the safer places. Locals of Baramulla town said, "The heavy rainfall across the valley and especially in Baramulla district has exposed the plans and policies of Roads and Building department and Municipality. "Do they know that rain water has entered dozens of houses in Kanispora villages, Delina, Kralhar, Singbagh, Kanthbagh,Khowjabagh and other low lying areas of Baramulla town which has caused loss of property and livestock?" they asked. Need of the hour is that district administration should make proper arrangements for de-watering in water logging areas of Baramulla town, so that drain water does not enter their houses, they felt. |
