Jan seeks tents, ration for flood hit sufferers | | | Early Times Report jammu, Mar 31: Urging the government to appreciate the enormity of damages caused by flash floods in the wake of incessant rains for the past few days in Poonch district, former MLA and senior National Conference leader Ajaz Jan on Tuesday sought free rations and tented accommodation for those who have been rendered homeless. "Measures are needed to be taken on war-footing to address to the difficulties of flood sufferers and wherever houses have developed cracks, inmates must be immediately shifted to safer places", Jan said during his extensive tour of Chambeer, Sawijan, Mandi and Chandi Block. Jan met the sufferers and took stock of the damages caused in these areas. He asked the administration to carry out immediate survey across the district and have the losses to crops, residential houses and other property assessed. In the meanwhile, he hoped that the government will provide necessary help in terms of cash assistance and rations to the sufferers. He also stressed the need for maintaining the supply position of essentials and ensuring round the clock medical services, especially in the areas affected by floods. The former MLA asked the administration to carry out restoration of various public utility services, as the rains have caused much damage to road network, especially link roads connecting various villages, besides culverts. The public mobility should not get impacted, he added. Jan expressed solidarity with the sufferers and assured them that their genuine grievances will be got mitigated at concerned quarters earnestly. |
