Jammu, Mar 31: A report on increasing Child Labour in the State of J&K by Adv Deepika Singh Rajawat which was sent to Chief Justice treated as Public Interest Litigation, a Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Bansi Lal Bhat directed state to file response in this PIL. The petitioner in her report has submitted that one Brijesh hailing from Bahraich Uttar Pradesh, in violation of Child Labour Act, 1986 was forcibly engaged into child labour/domestic labour by a Jammu based businessman, Kanwar Chabra. Finally in August last year, after seven months of slavery and hardship, Brijesh was rescued when his father came to meet him to take him home as his ailing mother wanted to meet him. After getting angry with Brijesh's request to go home, his employer Kanwar Chabra thrashed Brijesh for hours together and mercilessly beaten till he was rescued. After long struggle, concerned Police Station registered FIR against the relatives of Suresh and Kanwar Chabra. "Department of Labour which generally feels helpless to rescue children engaged into domestic labour also initiated prosecution against the culprits and one of the culprits was booked and easily bailed out.
