Locals protest against Govt, demand early construction of Bariel Bridge

Billawar, Mar 31: A large number of villagers today staged protest demonstration on Lakhanpur Billawar Link road amid sloganeering against state government and alleging neglect of the introduction of development projects in village Bariel including halfway project Bariel Bridge which is pending for last 12 years.
The protest was led by Mohinder Singh, a prominent citizen of the area in which a large number of students and women participated. Addressing to media persons after staging protest, Mohinder Singh said, "No development work has been introduced in the areas and people live a miserable life."
"The Bariel Bridge has been pending for 12 years but previous governments continually ignoring the suffering of people, he said. He appealed Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed to deploy officers from district administration to review the worse condition of areas who cross river to reach their destinations.
A student Manjeet Singh, lamented that students have to cross the river to reach their schools and examination halls during examination days. Ranjit Singh, a farmer demanded compensation for their losses in recent rains and flood. He alleged on government to pay attention in Kashmir during floods but ignore other part of the state like Billawar town where farmers have lost their crops and houses during recent incessant rain.
When contacted to Dy CM Dr Nirmal Singh assured the public of his constituency to finalize the construction work on Bariel Bridge that was pending for last 12 years. He said work to upgrade/improve road connectivity in Billawar constituency shall starts soon. Dy CM also affirmed to compensate farmers whose crops have been damaged in recent incessant rains. He said government has passed instructions to concerned authorities and passed instructions to conduct survey so as appropriate compensation can be given to affected farmers.
