Rajouri Day celebrations concludes with patriotic fervor

Rajouri, Apr 17: To mark its freedom from Pakistani invaders, Rajouri Day, the seven day long celebrations of Rajouri Day organised by Army in collaboration with Civil Administration, concluded here today with the wreath laying ceremony in which homage was paid to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the liberation of border district.
In an impressive homage ceremony Lt Gen KH Singh,Corps Commander,15 Corps, Maj Gen Saranjeet Singh, GOC Rajouri based 25 Infantry Division and other senior Civil and Police officers laid wreaths at the memorial.
The celebrations were commenced on April 11, by GOC Infantry Division with the inauguration of Ex-servicemen Assistance Centre, photo exhibition, health awareness camp etc.
During today's programme, Lt Gen KH Singh today visited the photo exhibition, medical camp and artificial limb camp where he distributed artificial limbs, eye kits, wheelchairs and tricycles to the locals and veterans. On this occasion, Krishna Kumar Gupta, who is the eyewitness of 1947 massacre and led the local youth against Cross border intruders and shared his memories while Gulzar Chaudhary welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significant role played by the Indian Army in liberation of Rajouri. A cultural programme was presented by locals and school children while army also participated in this event. The chief guest Lt Gen K H Singh felicitated the Veer Naris present on the occasion and also distributed prizes among the various school children for their excellent performances.
Para motor Display, Sky diving from a height of 7000 feet, equestrian and dog show proved to be the show stoppers of the event.
Pertinent to mention that on 12 April 1948, troops of 1 Kumaon Regiment along with the Tanks of Central India Horse and 5 (Bombay) Field Artillery Battery advanced from Chingus for liberating Rajouri from the invaders and on 13 April 1948 and liberated the Rajouri. Since then the day is celebrated every year to pay homage to the brave martyrs who laid down their lives for the liberation of Rajouri.
