Mir ignores intellectuals, picks 'yes men' | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 17: The newly appointed Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir ignoring intellectuals and picking "yes men" as office bearers of the party has left the party cadres fuming and Mir appointing loyalists of former JKPCC Chief Prof Saifuddin Soz as spokespersons has added fuel to the fire. "Mir ignoring prominent Congress leaders, former Advocate General Mohammad Aslam Goni, former BAR association Jammu President B S Salathia, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Mir Lasjan, former journalist Salman Nizami and former Journalist Shafiq Mir, has left Congress leaders frustrated," said sources. They added that all the five leaders were appointed as spokespersons for the election campaign by Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, but they don't figure in the new list of spokespersons which was approved by Mir. The new president appointed Aslam Goni as Executive Member, G N Mir Lasjan as Executive Member, Salman Nizami as Organizing and publicity secretary and Shafiq Mir as publicity secretary and the senior advocate and former BAR Association President B S Salathia was completely ignored. "Only non performers have a place in this party while honest and dedicated workers have no say," said a Congress leader. The height on influence in selection list could be gauged from the comment of one of the Prof Soz loyalist who told them that he (Soz) was dismayed as he could not make him a spokesman of the party. They added that the newcomers with political backing are being promoted at the cost of the deserving. They said that newly appointed Publicity Secretary has also decided to submit his resignation to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Pertinently, since the day new JKPCC spokespersons have been appointed they have not given a single statement neither have they participated in any political debate. "We have been working for the party for the last several decades but nothing has been done to address our concerns," rued a Congress worker. "It seems that Congress party has not learnt a lesson from recent debacle in Assembly elections. Congress leaders are busy in setting their own agendas and are least bothered about unity in Congress. The tall claims of rejuvenating party by party leadership are a hoax," he said and maintained that "Some leaders in PCC are against unity because their survival depends on factionalism. Influential leaders have launched a vicious campaign against their rivals." The sources said the Media Cell in charge, being the Soz loyalist, is ignoring other party leaders. The Congress J&K Incharge Ambika Soni had asked the PCC President to appoint more members in media cell but many leaders have refused to join it. The common view in the party circles is that they do not want to be part of the cell till non professionals are there. |
