GCE, Jammu inaugurates National Seminar

JAMMU, Apr 18: Govt. College of education canal road Jammu organized two day national seminar on "Challenges to teacher education in the new millennium".
Prof.(Dr.) R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the inaugural function. While addressing the distinguished guests, faculty and delegates, he talked about the current practices happening in the field of teacher education and also stressed on the various challenges in the context of Jammu and Kashmir State. His focus was on quality, value based, ICT and relevant education. He appreciated the efforts of the college Principal and his team for organizing a historical function in the college.
The Key note address was presented by Prof. N.K. Dash, Director, School Education , Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU), New Delhi. He talked about the challenges in Teacher Education from school to higher education stressing the present state of affairs. He also pointed out the present status of teacher education in Indian perspectives. The policies initiated by Government were taken up by Prof. Dash especially RTE, NCF 2005, NCFTE 2009. He appreciated the level of commitment of the faculty and staff in the organization of the seminar.
Prof. Mubark Singh, H.O.D, Department of Education, University of Jammu spoke in length about Teacher Education by stating that challenges in present context which includes the non-attendance of students, non availability of infrastructural facilities and compromise with human values. He also talked about the four pillars of learning and laid stress on Learning to live together and learning to be.
The welcome address was presented by Prof. Ajeet Angral, Principal of the college. He appreciated the efforts of the all the staff members in general and members of the organizing committee in particular in organizing such a academic mega event in the college.
On the first day of the national seminar, the paper presentations were divided into six technical sessions. The sessions were chaired Prof. Mubark Singh, H.O.D Department of Education, Prof. Renu Nanda, Prof. Rajiv Rattan Sharma from University of Jammu, Prof. Arti Bakshi, Department of Psychology, University of Jammu, Prof. Darshana P Shama, DDE University of Jammu.
The co-chair persons were Dr. Kajal Manhas, University of Jammu, Dr. J.N Baliya, Central University of Jammu, Dr. Kavita Suri, University of Jammu, Dr. Vijay Sehgal, Department of Law, University of Jammu, Dr. Pallavi Sachdeva, University of Jammu.
About 75 participants presented their papers on the various themes of the National Seminar. In all these sessions, the focused areas were innovative practices in teacher education, role of ICT in teacher education, value education, e-education, emerging issues in teacher education and changing roles of teacher education institution for quality excellence. Prof. Rupinder Kour, Seminar Coordinator gave a brief report, focusing the different sub themes of the seminar Prof. Anju Bala presented the vote of thanks while the proceedings were conducted by Tanzeel and Neerja.
