Has BJP "sold its soul" to PDP for sharing power ? | (Behind the veil) | | Early Times Report
Jammu,Apr 18: While commenting on the arrest of separatist leader,Masarat Alam,Union Minister of state in the PMO, Jitendra Singh has said the action has been taken in accordance with the law. Alam has been arrested to uphold national interest and there will be no compromise on this front, Singh has asserted."As far as the BJP leadership is concerned, both at the centre as well as the state, our stand has been very consistent as far as nationalism is concerned, patriotism is concerned and we follow a principle of zero-tolerance towards terrorism and towards separatism," Singh has stated. Singh has claimed that the BJP had not compromised its policy, its ideology, its commitments for the sake of sharing power. When Masarat Alam was released on the direction of Chief Minister,Mufti Mohd.Sayeed, did the BJP compromise its stand for the sake of sharing power ?Yes,it seems to have compromised its policy because it has been opposed to giving any leniency to the separatists or those trying to derail peace. Did not the state unit of the BJP compromise its policy vis-à-vis terrorists for the sake of sharing power with the PDP which had not instructed the police and security agencies to impose restrictions on separatists' plan to organize a reception rally for Syed Ali Shah Geelani who had to return to Srinagar from New Delhi ? Did not the BJP compromise its commitment on dealing firmly with those trying to preach sedition ? It seems so because hours after Masarat Alam and his supporters raised anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans and waved Pakistani flags he was not arrested.. Those BJP leaders who enjoy all perks and facilities as members of the council of ministers headed by Mufti Mohd.Sayeed remained reticent while Alam and his supporters shouted "Mere Jaan Pakistan,Pakistan"(my life is Pakistan) and "Kashmir banega Pakistan"(Kashmir will become part of Pakistan).. And if Masarat Alam was arrested on Friday morning and other senior separatists were placed under house arrest after strict restrictions were imposed on proposed march to Tral it was the result of firm stance taken by the BJP led NDA Government. In fact the Union Home Minister,Rajnath Singh, had conveyed his message to the Mufti when he talked to him on Thursday. Echoing Mufti Sayeed's statement Dr Jitendra Singh has described arrest of Masarat Alam as action taken in accordance with law. The BJP had preferred that Alam be arrested under the Act of sedition. But the police have arrested him under Section 13A(unlawful activities), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 147 (riots), 427 (damage to public property) under CrPC . Has not the BJP compromised its stand on the issue.Sedition charges were filed against him belatedly. Are the BJP leaders prepared to accept that they have surrendered their policies, poll commitments and promises for the sake of sharing power with the BJP?.Did the BJP put its foot down on securing citizenship rights or proper rehabilitation of refugees from West Pakistan for which it had made a commitment during the Lok Sabha election ? No it has not done.Has the BJP initiated any move to end or reduce the level of regional discrimination ? It has not been done. Has the leaders of the state unit of the BJP lodged a strong protest with the central Government for having sanctioned one AIIMs type institute for Kashmir where there is already one Institute of Medical sciences while Jammu has been left out ? No they have not done it. They could have visited New Delhi and prevail upon the BJP led Government to sanction one AIIMs type institute for Jammu too as was done by the Congress leaders who rushed to New Delhi where they persuaded Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh to sanction one central university for Jammu also. It was not done by the BJP leaders from Jammu and still they take pride in supporting regional balance.(EOM) |
