Early Times Report

Sunderbani, Apr 18: The lifeline of the small villages and hamlets connecting with each other and transporting men and material from one place to another are in great shambles in tehsil Sunderbani, courtesy administrative apathy and nonchalance to control the damage.
The glaring example of roads damaged and ruined after the unprecedented rains in Jammu division have left the upper reaches of important tehsils like Sunderbani, Poonch and Rajouri unconnected and extending severe problems to the commuters especially the children of the area who have to move places for their education.
The Dharpur road and Makol Mandi to Nahoti Bridge, the road that is interconnected and runs nealr 5 kilometers connecting the small hamlets have been totally washed out as the main strip has caved in at many places.
The vehicle pliers have to divert to longer routes to reach these areas and have to alight the ir passengers at far off places from their destinations who have to walk miles to reach their homes.
"Though we, the elders and adults manage to criss-cross over the diversions and manage to reach homes, the major sufferers are children who have to ferry miles to reach their schools which is taking toll on their studies," said Ram Prakash , 48, a provision store holder at Nala Makol.
Same was the narrative as told by other residents of different villages in all tehsils.
When asked to different hierarchical persons occupying different positions in various departments concerned to roads and buildings, satisfactory reply remain elusive from all of them.
Mohammad Parvez Iqbal Divisional Engineer, Nowshera on the first instance gave a very devious response saying that the works is moving at a required pace on the roads and damage would be controlled slowly.
Ameet Sheikh R&B however directed senior engineer Dev Raj to take the cognizance of the matter who in return told this reporter that he had submitted the proposal to Divisional engineer and is awaiting his orders,
The divisional engineer when contacted back responded quite vaguely and dropped the telephone later to keep it switched off for the day.
It is being , however, alleged by the villagers that indecent deals between the contractors and the Divisional Engineer as well as the Assistant Executive engineer Sanjeev Sharma of Noushaera has come up with a dragnet that has stopped the works on the roads .
"An RTI too filed in the Roads and Building department to get the details of the expenses incurred on the construction of Dharpur road to Makol Temple Bridge too failed to give the exact reply," lamented one of the person of the area. The villagers however are demanding a vigilance enquiry into the matter as to why the roads have been left damaged and why no construction is being done
