WPR: BJP stands thoroughly exposed

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 20: The BJP stands thoroughly exposed. It has compromised not only its ideology to share some loaves and fishes of office in the state not only at the cost of the ignored and marginalized people of Jammu region and Ladakh, but also at the cost of the nation. The irresponsible manner in which the BJP has been conducting itself in the state only serves to demonstrate that it had never meant what it preached across the nation during all these years of independence to create an impression that it was a nationalist party with a nationalist agenda and not for political power. Had the people of Jammu province and their fellow countrymen knew that the BJP would compromise everything after coming into power at the centre, the people would have rejected it. Similarly, the people of Jammu region would not have elected 25 MLAs. It’s no wonder that all social groups, including the agitating farmers, across the country are bemoaning their decision to vote for the BJP. Almost all are saying that the “BJP has cheated us sentiments during the election campaigns”. “We were misled, and hoodwinked by Modi and his cohorts” is the general perception in the country. Another perception in the country is that the Modi government is anti-poor, anti-middle class, anti-farmer and pro-industrialist”.
It is pertinent to mention here that the BJP got votes in Jammu region on certain Jammu-specific planks. It had said that the BJP, if voted to power, will protect the national cause, set up a delimitation commission to provide adequate representation to Jammu in the assembly, grant citizenship rights to refugees from West Pakistan, give due compensation to the refugees from PoJK, work for reservation of a few seats for the people of PoJK and Kashmiri Pandits, grant Dogra certificates to the Dogra youth, end discrimination with the people of Jammu region, ensure parity between Kashmir and Jammu in terms share in the vital service sector and so on. The experience shows that instead of doing something to fulfill the promises during these almost two months, it has bartered everything for a few berths in the council of ministers.
Yesterday, the party released the political resolution which was adopted on the last day of the two day meeting of the state executive committee on April 18. It was nothing but an attempt to hoodwink the people of Jammu region, including the refugees from West Pakistan. During the election campaign, the BJP poll campaigners had, for example, repeatedly talked about citizenship rights for the refugees from West Pakistan. These refugees have no citizenship right in Jammu and Kashmir, not including the right to immovable property, right to vote in the assembly and local bodies’ elections, right to higher education and technical and professional education, right to service under the state government and right to bank loan despite the fact that thy have been living in Jammu province since 1947.
The resolution which was released to the press by the party’s chief spokesperson only said that it would ensure for the hapless and abandoned refugees livelihood and meaningful living. “The party would ensure that the refugees are given their rights to livelihood and meaningful living,” it said. It was nothing but a fraud committed on the refugees who had voted en-block for the BJP during the Lok Sabha election. It is a matter of regret that the BJP has taken a U-turn on all the promises it made and that it is conducting itself in the manner in which the Congress conducted itself during the past more than 65 years. Some are saying, “no, the BJP is worse than the Congress”.
