WPRs: Condemning RSS for no reason Kashmir safe, secure for the community

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 20: All separatists in Kashmir have ganged up against West Pakistan refugees (WPRs) and RSS. They have joined hands against them and resolved to work against them, despite the fact that these separatists do not see eye to eye with each other. Geelani is threatening the state government that his pro-Pak outfit would hold demonstrations across the Valley if any attempt was made to grant citizenship rights to the WPRs. Mirwaiz is also vitiating the atmosphere through his provocative and uncalled for statements on the WPRs' demand seeking citizenship rights so that they also enjoy equal rights with their fellow citizens in the state. Besides, Geelani and Mirwaiz are charging the state government with implementing the RSS agenda. The RSS has become active in Kashmir and is using its auxiliary Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) and allied groups such as Daryaganj-based JamaitUlema-e-Hind and a network of 20 to 30 NGOs to spread its influence and agenda (Hindutva) in Kashmir, Mirwaiz has been saying ever since the Governor's address was read in the joint session of the state legislature on March 18. The address had talked about the "sustainability and livelihood of the WPRs". It nowhere said that the state government would grant citizenship rights to the WPRs.
Self-styled JKLF chairman Yasin Malik, who has killed many innocent civilians in cold-blood, on the other hand, sat on hunger strike the other day and leveled the same charges. The RSS and its affiliates have been actively working on their 'hidden' agenda to dilute Muslim-majority status of Kashmir, he said.
The fact of the matter is that all the Kashmiri separatists are polluting the Kashmir's environment to destabilize the government and further their sinister agenda by raking up issues which are non- existent. They say that the settlement of WPRs would alter the demography of Kashmir. It is a spurious argument. These refugees have already been putting up in Jammu since 1947-1948 and, hence, the question of altering the Kashmir's demography doesn't arise. No one in the government has ever said that the WPRs would be settled in Kashmir with full citizenship rights. They would remain there where they live today. This is the truth. Similarly, none from the RSS has ever suggested that these refugees would be taken to Kashmir for their permanent settlement.
They are only making out an issue out of a non-issue and their objective is dubious and anti-humanity. Kashmir is safe and secure for the community, they claim, they represent. Those whom they considered fifth columnists or Indian agents left Kashmir as early as in early 1990. Kashmir today is a one-community region and no one would buy the spurious argument that the RSS is trying to dilute the Kashmir's Muslim-majority character by thinking in terms of settling WPRs in Kashmir.
The state government needs to call their bluff and put thing in perspective that these refugees would remain stay put where they live today. Even otherwise, they are not the masters of the destiny of the people of the state. They are anti-anti-nationals and their place is jail.
