Jammu, Apr 24: The decision of the Mufti government to slap PSA against Masarat Alam and send him to the Jammu jail has been widely welcomed in Jammu by the victims of terrorism and religious fanaticism. They have said the Mufti government took a right step.
Masarat was re-arrested on April 17 this year, two days after police registered FIR against him and other separatist leaders for “provocative activities and hoisting of Pakistan flag” during a rally held by Syed Ali Geelani, the chairman his faction of Hurriyat Conference, at Hyderpora, Srinagar. He had challenged his arrest and submitted a bail application in the Court of Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Budgam. On April 22, the Magistrate reserved his order on the bail application. He said he would deliver his judgement on April 25.
Many victims of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism on Thursday said that the mere detention of Alam under the PSA was not enough. They said it was imperative on the part of the state government to slap PSA against Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and other Pakistani agents who have been roaming about freely in the Valley to incite anti-India hatred. “If lasting peace is to be forged in the state, it is incumbent on the part of the state government to put behind bar Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and other Pakistani agents on a permanent basis,” they said, adding that the “Indian state should act like China, Pakistan and United States act against rebels and anti-state actors”. Not only this, they also said that these Kashmiri separatists must not be allowed to use mobiles and internet facility, that must be debarred from interacting with media through mobile and similar other services and that no statement of theirs be published in any newspaper.
Indeed, they made a point by urging the authorities to put all separatists behind bars, as also by urging them to keep them under a close watch so that they do not misuse the jail premises for any anti-India activity.
