Govt to look into matter of releasing Bank savings, FDR's of displaced people :Sat Sharma

Jammu, Apr 24: In an initiative to release the Bank savings and FDR's lying in J&K Bank, Mirpur Branch (now under occupation of Pakistan), belonging to displaced persons who left their homes and hearths in November, 1947, a communication was made to Minister of State for Finance and Information Technology Departments Pawan Kumar Gupta through BJP MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma (CA) by S.O.S International Chairman Rajiv Chuni, an organization for displaced persons from PoK. In a press statement issued Sat Sharma (CA) said that in the communication letter vide no. MoS/FIT/PS/JKB/101 from the Minister to him it is mentioned that with the grievances that the persons hailing from Mirpur area before partition of 1947 had deposited huge amount in shape of cash deposits of sorts with Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Mirpur Branch now the area under the occupation of Pakistan.
He said it was also mentioned in the letter that over 67 years has elapsed but despite of repeated requests and demands of the said depositors deported from Mirpur in 1947 and settle in J&K and various parts of the country, the records of subsisting bank balances have not been disclosed by the bank.
He stated that the Minister also mentioned although the original depositors may not be alive after this long spell of 67 years still their heirs and successors have rights to know the status of the said bank balances with their quantum besides also to claim the same to which the bank being custodian of such deposits cannot evade.
The BJP MLA also stated that the Minister has desired that Jammu & Kashmir Bank Ltd., in upholding the faith of people should make exercise constructively to locate the entire record and make to the public through appropriate notification, the latest status of all such bank accounts of sorts with their bank balances subsisting on the fateful day of their deportation from Mirpur in 1947 and by updating their accounts till date along with their due interest as per governing interest rates be made available and paid to the living account holders or in their absence to the successors of such account holders in case of their death.
The MLA said that the developments regarding the same are under progress and soon a viable solution will also be brought to the genuine problems of the displaced people from Mirpur.
