Sat Sharma demands martyr status for Chamel Singh
4/27/2015 12:21:28 AM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 26: In order to grant Martyr status to Late Chamel Singh and giving suitable compensation to his family, BJP MLA Sat Sharma (CA) submitted a representation on the name of Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir Mufti Mohammed Sayeed through Principal Secretary to Chief Minister BB Vyas. The representation states that a martyr status to the deceased and compensation to his family should be given on the moral grounds.
Pertinent to mention, Chamel Singh was beaten and murdered in Kot Lakhpath Jail of Lahore in January, 2013 under the same circumstances as Punjab's Sarabjit Singh was murdered. The body was kept for two months in Pakistan.
Vital organs of the body were removed before the dead body was handed over to the deceased's family.
In a press statement issued, Sat Sharma (CA) said that it was a clear cut violation of Human Rights and none of the Pakistani prisoners have been given such a brutal treatment by our country as was done by Pakistani authorities with our fellow Indian.
Sharma said that he has been associated with the family of the deceased and was working for bringing back his dead body from Pakistan so that his family could perform last rites.
He stated that it was a matter of appreciation when Punjab Government compensated the family of Sarabjit Singh with Rupees One Crore and jobs to both his daughters whereas, nothing was done by previous State Government of Jammu and Kashmir in this regard concerning the case of Chamel Singh.
He also stated that Chamel Singh was the sole bread earner of the family when he was caught by Pakistani soldiers. The family is merely able to cope with their basic requirements, their life has become miserable and all the four sons of Chamel Singh are working in the fields of others as labourers.
The BJP MLA also mentioned that a communication was also made to previous NC-Congress government in this regard but there was no response from their side concerning the same.
Further he also said that State BJP Incharge & MP (Rajya Sabha) Avinash Rai Khanna is also following the case at the Central level and soon a positive solution will also be brought up concerning the same.
He said that the MP already helped in year 2013 when he gave Rupees 2.86 lakhs from his own funds and now he is working hard again so that his family could be suitably rewarded.
He also expected that the new State Government will surely look into the matter and will provide necessary help to the family of Chamel Singh.
