Early Times Report

Rajouri, Apr 27: Large scale transfers of consultants and other specialists from various health institutions including district hospital Rajouri have badly hit the people as even for minor ailments patients are referred to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital Jammu.
Though the Health Department has sent many good doctors to the district hospital, sub-district hospitals and other health institutions, many among them either have gone on leave or have not joined at their respective institutions till date.District hospital Rajouri which caters to more than seven lakh people of Rajouri and from some areas of Poonch district is facing acute shortage of consultants, B-grade doctors and assistant surgeons.
Dr Jamil-ul-Hassan , consultant medicine, was the only physician serving the hospital for last more than one year. He too was shifted to district hospital Poonch, hence adding to the people's woes.
So acute is the dearth of specialists in the district hospital Rajouri that on Monday a patient (MRD 1935 dt 27/4) who was suffering from acute fever was referred to GMC hospital Jammu. Similarly, inhabitants of Sunderbani tehsil and other adjoining areas are suffering after six doctors were simultaneously transferred from sub district hospital."All the transferred doctors were devotedly serving the people of this area and even patients from other tehsils use to avail their services. Presently in the absence of doctors, the OPD has suffered badly and even for minor operations doctors present in the hospital refer patients to GMC hospital at Jammu to ease the pressure," said Rakesh Kumar.
Criticizing the health authorities, Mohammad Hanief, Rajesh Kumar and other residents said that mass transfers of doctors has badly affected the working in the hospitals and it will take long time to streamline the system as most of the doctors are avoiding to join at their new places of postings.
Inhabitants of the area have appealed to Health Minister to take immediate steps to ensure that doctors must join their duties at new places of their postings. Dr Govind Sharam, the Block Medical Officer, said that arrangements are being made to provide better health services to people at sub district hospital at Sunderbani.
Meanwhile, Ravinder Raina, MLA while talking to some reporters said that Health Minister Ch Lal Singh has deputed six doctors to Sunderbani. "Action will be taken against those doctors who do not join their duties at SDH, Sunderbani," said Raina.
