Srinagar, Apr 27 : Judicial Magistrate Budgam today sentenced a man to two years and six months in jail after convicting him for abducting a minor girl in the central Kashmir district in 2008. The judge, Sheikh Gowher Hussain, also imposed a fine of Rs 1000 on the convicted persons, Altaf Ahmad Bhat. As per prosecution, father of the girl on 17 April 2008 filed compliant that her daughter had gone market on April 15 but did not return home. On searching for her, it was found that the accused Altaf enticed and abducted her. Police filed an FIR number-127/2008 against Altaf and during investigation, the abducted girl was medically examined which revealed no intercourse was done with girl. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court convicted Altaf for abducting the girl and sentenced him to imprisonment for 2-1/2-years and fine of Rs 1000. "The period if any, already spent, shall be counted in the present sentence. In case the accused fails to pay the fine, he shall further be detained for one month," the judge added. |
