Jammu, May 3: District Udhampur Sport Climbing competition, organised by Mountaineering Association of J&K, concluded at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore here today. About 70 boys and girls participated in this day- long competition which was conducted only in lead climbing in three different categories of sub junior boys and girls and junior boys. In the sub junior boys' category, Sudanshu Verma of National Academy High School, Udhampur climbed well to clinch the top position. Rohit Singh and Navjish Sharma secured the second and third place respectively. In the sub junior girls group, Madhu Thakur, a tall and powerful climber who has already represented the state in the North Zone competition, surpassed other climbers in power and technique to bag the gold medal. Renu Devi and Kritika Gupta had to be contented with the silver and bronze medals respectively. However, there was a good contest in the boys' category in which Arsham Jamwal emerged victorious and Mohit Shree and Shivam Senjun shared the second and third positions respectively. Ashwani Sharma former MLA was the chief guest on the occasion who distributed prizes among the winners. Prominent among others present on the occasion included Director of Sprawling Buds School, Rahul Sharma, Principal of National Academy High School, Nisha Sharma, joint secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Shawetica Khajuria and joint secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K, Sonam Sidharth. The tournament was sponsored by J&K State Sports Council as part of the annual calendar of activities. |
