CUJ prepares world class curriculum for media practitioners

Jammu, May 3: Department of Mass Communication and New Media of Central University of Jammu organized a national workshop 'Reinvigorating the study of mass communication' on Friday.
The National workshop was attended by leading academicians and media practitioners from all over India. Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, former Vice Chancellor of Patna University and Director School of Journalism and Mass Communication IGNOU and also a Board of Studies member of the department deliberated upon the need for new pedagogical approach to impart education in media. He also stated that media curriculum has to be designed as per future needs of the industry. Prof. J. Jethwaney from Indian Institute of Mass Communication also taked about the real interface of media academics and practice where multitasking is the need of the hour.
Prof M S Kidwai from Aligarh Muslim University, Prof M Kasim from Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia University, Prof Govind Singh from Uttarakhand Open University, Prof. Navjit Singh Johal from Punjabi University, Prof K Narendra from Osmania University, Hyderabad, Dr. Arul Selvan from IGNOU New Delhi and Dr. Mira K Desai from SNDT University Mumbai participated in the workshop.
In brainstorming sessions of the workshop, these academicians discussed various facets of media industry and finalized the syllabus for Masters Degree. Prof.Y.Parthasaradhi, Head of the Department, faculty members Dr Bachha Babu, Manish Prakash, Archana Kumari, Rashid Ali of the department of Mass Communication and New media and faculty members of other departments of Central University of Jammu participated in the workshop.
The workshop was also attended by the students of the department who came up with their innovative ideas in designing the syllabi. The workshop was also attended by Ashwani Sharma, Bureau Chief Aaj Tak and Abhymanyu Sharma, Bureau Chief Dainik Jagran.
